Exegetical & Expository Preaching

“Exegetical” preaching uses the practice of “exegesis”, which is where you let the Biblical text say what it says, and mean what it means, according to its context. This is opposed to “eisegesis”, where one reads into the text what we think or would like it to say and mean. At Gather Community Church, we aim to find what the original authors were saying in the original context first, then derive lessons for today from that.

“Expository” preaching refers to an in-depth explanation of a text, often going verse-by-verse through a passage. We want to dive deep into Scripture, because as Isaiah 40:8 says, “The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God will stand forever.”
